England 2012

In terms of ability there was not much to choose between England and France at the European Football Championship: two average teams given their comeuppance by a vastly superior Spain and Italy respectively. But whereas England played their hearts out on the pitch and behaved impeccably off it, France were once again a tormented side at odds with themselves and the media.
It would have been a travesty of justice if England had won the penalty shoot-out, but there was never much likelihood of that happening! Besides, Pirlo's beautiful goal probably gave Italy the moral ascendency.
Oh well, back to the drawing board!
