French Hypocrisy

Very earnest discussion yesterday on the French current affairs programme C'est dans l'air about the storm aroused by Nadine Romano's  remark that France was a "white race".   Expressions of horror and consternation all round, interspersed with passionate speeches from the Assemblée nationale. Nobody was so tactless as to point out the almost total lack of non-white faces in said assembly.

If you want to find out how many non-whites there are in the French parliament, you will have your work cut out unless you happen to know the code word for non-white. I eventually discovered that it is minorité visible, and this minority represents 2% of the total. Given that at any given time a substantial proportion of French députés are out to lunch, it is fair to say that the minorité visible is also invisible.
