A couple of thoughts came to me as I was editing my profile yesterday.
The first is that as soon as I am asked to compile a list of favourite books, films, etc., my mind becomes a complete blank. I think this is a fairly common phenomenon and wonder whether, like me, you find one or two weird choices continually springing to mind as though to taunt you by their sheer weirdness? Where books are concerned, the name Godfrey Winn always comes to mind. I have nothing against this long-forgotten writer but he would never in a million years figure among the authors I really cherish. Music? An obscure instrumental called The March Hare.

The second thought is that when we think of the cinema we tend to list our favourite films whereas with books we are likely to concentrate on the author rather than a particular title. Do you agree?
