Lost between two languages

I spent the first 25 years of my life speaking English. In the 35 years since then, French has gradually gained the ascendancy and I would say that I now speak French about 80% of the time, although I write almost exclusively in English.
The curious thing is that, as I get older, my French seems gradually to be going to the wall and English is coming back with a vengeance. They do say that one reverts to one's mother tongue in old age.
I would be interested to know whether this phenomenon holds true with people who are truly bilingual. Presumably not, since such people have two mother tongues, or rather NO mother tongue. I would never for a moment consider myself bilingual although I am very much at ease in French.
