Mustard Fields

I have never seen so many mustard fields in full bloom at this time of year. Curiously enough, they are particularly in evidence around us, roughly in the triangle formed by Aubigny, Brazey and Esbarres.
The funny thing is that my childhood memories are of fields of mustard in high summer. I have a distinct recollection of seeing them as we drove from Ringshall to Hadleigh for Sunday mass, Father Rudd officiating. I doubt if he's still in action now, as he would be about 115 years old, well past retirement age even for Catholic priests. But I do remember very well the lovely scent of mustard, quite different from the more chemical smell of rape.

Update 5 November
... Rapeseed, that is.
At this time of year, the chances are that the mustard is being grown as green manure.
