Refuge from A Cruel World

Where is one to turn if one seeks solace from an increasingly violent, harsh and pitiless world? To churches? Yes, if you can find one open. To the pages of Gala? Certainly. To advertisements? Perhaps, but difficult to altogether escape the impression that the advertiser is, how to put it, mostly interested in my money.

To my mind, your best bet are those supplements that adorn the pages of the more reputable newspapers (the sort that I read) and which at first sight you might think are written by objective hard-nosed journalists:

Qatar: Building on a robust economy

Impressive boost in insurance business

Construction cranes in Doha symbolize growth and prosperity

Double-digit growth is in (sic) the cards

Regulations are set to improve further with a single authority

Bumper fiscal results

Why can't we have more news like that?
