The musical scene


Very few singers of operatic intent have proved much good when they turn their hand to popular music, and of course pop singers (with the possible exception of Chris Montez) have all been hopeless when they’ve tried their luck with opera. The classic example of how to take a nice piece of popular music - Henry Mancini’s Moon River – and massacre it, is provided by the Three Tenors, they of the mopped brow. In their rendition, they triumphantly succeeded in eliminating the last ounce of melody from the song which they re-baptised for the occasion Moon Reever

News from the Olympics

Some people seem to be labouring under the misapprehension that the person with the best drug is sure to win a gold medal. If only it were as simple as that! Somewhere down the line you need to show evidence of a certain aptitude or talent for your chosen discipline. If you look at today’s great athletes, do you really think they got where they are solely on the strength of their drugs? Come on, you dope!
