Franco-English Interlude (3)

Long ago, George Orwell wrote of the essential decency of the English. After all the social, moral and financial upheavals of the last fifty years, one might have thought that this quality, like so much else, had flown out the window, but to this expatriate at least, decency is still the distinguishing mark of the English. I don’t know how it has survived intact in the face of the relentless pressure of modern life, but survive it has.

Now let’s see how we face up to the recession.
