10.30 am: Desert Island Discs

Roy Plomley meets genial Balkan strongman Marshal Tito, and asks him to choose 10 records to accompany him on his desert island sojourn.

Tito began his career as a lion tamer at the esteemed Bertram Mills Circus before working for the CIA as a pilotless drone. His selection included The Candyman by Sammy Davis Jnr, Happy Days are Here Again by Mitch Miller and the Gang, and We're Riding Along on the Crest of the Wave by Ralph Reader and the Gang Show.

The programme ended on an acrimonious note when Tito was informed that he could not take his women with him to the island, only the Bible and the Complete Works of Shakespeare. Apparently he made same disobliging remarks about these tomes which Plomley took amiss. Words were exchanged, leading to a bout of fisticuffs.
