From This Day On

The news came down the line and was at first greeted with gasps of disbelief and howls of dismay, but by mid-morning, and with no word forthcoming from the Palace, people began to come to terms with what had once seemed impossible. The clincher came early in the afternoon when the CIA confirmed that the voice on the tape was indeed that of a 65-year-old man ripe for retirement and ready to be put out to pasture.

So from this day on I can get up in the morning secure in the knowledge that the phone will not ring, the fax will not whirl and my in-box will not burst with the menace of texts to be translated. In fact, there's not much point in getting up at all really! What's on TV?
