The swallows, that is, not me. The main party set off before August was out, but I noticed another batch assembled on the telegraph poles the other day. With a bit of luck they should make it all right to southern climes. It's the stragglers that are still here in mid-September or later that one has to worry about.
In 2001, Anne and I caught up with some swallows gadding about near Essaouira in Morocco. Who knows, they could have been from Aubigny! And last year in February we came across quite a few swifts wheeling about in the skies above downtown Dubai.
Beautiful weather over the past few days but we are definitely, if not technically, into autumn now. Speaking personally and off the record, I shan't be sorry to see the back of autumn, a season I grow less and less fond of as I get older. All those leaves....
The ideal year for me would start in (present-day) December and end about half-way through July!
