West found a winning defence in today's deal. Unfortunately, he forgot that when your play speaks for itself, you should jolly well shut up.The deal started on a sour note when South for crying out loud didn't raise North's 2NT to 3NT! Then when West led a club against four spades, South finessed with dummy's queen when any fool could have told him he would have done better to grab the ace and start the trumps. It was becoming pretty clear that South was utterly out of his depths (he admitted afterwards he thought he had been invited to a game of Beggar My Neighbour). Too late! North and South came to blows and are now poles apart. I have been asked to be North’s second at the duel which is to take place on Wandsworth Common tomorrow at dawn. No flowers by request.
