A native from the fabled and mysterious Land of Punt girds a recalcitrant ass into action while a Boeing 747 flies past. - from a Jacquie Lawson e-card found in the valley of El-Assacif at Thebes
Your post about ancient Egypt brings to mind an epic student-type trip made after school/uni days, with a friend from Beaumont. Train Victoria to Istanbul thence boat Ismir to Cyprus thence by boat to Port Alexandria bus to Cairo then during a war with Israel military-type train to Thebes where the only other European present was a young Swiss archeolgy student. She took us around the tombs in the deserted Valleys of the Kings and Queens and we marvelled at the ancient art and Egyptian hieroglyphs. Military restrictions were imposed requiring us to return to the West side of the Nile before sunset each day. Even that enforced return by dhow was fascinating.
Greetings Barnaby and Happy New year.
