Further to my last post about books I haven't read: I was brought up to tell the truth at all times but I often wonder whether this might have cost me my place at Oxford University, as it was then called.
In the course of the interview for entrance to one of the colleges, the panel asked me if I had read War and Peace. I truthfully answered that I hadn't read either of them and the interview came to an end shortly afterwards. In the intervening years I have had ample leisure to ask myself whether I might not have done better to say that I had read at least one of them.
Snork, as we say else-thread!
ReplyDeleteBut in spite of that expensive and religious upbringing we had I don't believe truth should be told at all times. Viz: "Does my bum look big in this?". If asked by me and you answered truthfully I would be sad as well as pretty cross ..............
I'm bound to say my upbringing wasn't expensive at all. To the best of knowledge it cost my parents nothing, i.e. roughly what it was worth!
ReplyDeleteI prefer not to react to the latter part of the comment as I'm not altogether sure whose bum we are talking about...
Thank you very much for your comment. Would it be possible to have a translation? Thanks!
