This and That

Satirists are predictably having a field day with the new Conservative-Lib/Dem alliance. The power to shock or delight has of course long since vanished, a victim of the Law of Diminishing Returns, but one cartoon made me laugh. It shows David Cameron and his Cabinet about to begin a meeting. The caption reads: "This Cabinet will begin as soon as Clegg gets back with the coffee".

Spring is not complete for me until I have found what I am looking for. Some years I manage to track it down quite easily in the shops and sometimes it takes a little longer. But sooner or later I am sure to come across the product: a packet of Merveille de Kelvedon, the one and only, irreplaceable and never emulated Kelvedon Wonder!!

    What is this Kelvedon Wonder?
    Something culinary, like Maldon Salt?
Or seeds of some spectacular flower?

  2. Kelvedon Wonder is probably the most famous variety of garden pea! This is what Thompson & Morgan have to say on the subject: "Extremely popular and reliable variety for successional sowings throughout spring, and a particular favourite for June sowings, Pea Kelvedon Wonder produces huge crops of narrow pointed pods in pairs, averaging 7 or 8 succulent peas per pod. RHS AGM winner. Pea Kelvedon Wonder is resistant to Pea Wilt, tolerant to Downy Mildew".

What, even better than Surprise Peas?
Or perhaps they are what go into/used to go into - haven't seen them lately - Surprise Peas packets?
