Five Generations of the Hessey Family

Skipping back and forth between my own blog and my grandparents' diaries for 1925 and 1949, I sometimes have to think for a moment before I remember not only what year (and what time of year) I'm in but also where I am! Is this winter in Fascist Italy, Christmas in Switzerland, midsummer in postwar London or December in 21st century France?

Five generations of Hesseys span the years between 1925 and 2010. In the latter year generations one and two were all living abroad for much of the time! In 1949, generations one, two and three were all in England and, with the exception of Peter and Paul, generation three was already complete. And now here we are in 2010, with generations three, four and five scattered all over the world!

You are trying to give us 3 diaries (if we count your blog), which covers a huge timespan and has to be muddling. It is for the reader too! I found Grandad's casual reference to Musso gave me a bit of a jolt.

When we arranged Wilma's printed Order of Service for her funeral it was quite a shock to find just how many descendants there were - and several more of them now!

  2. Still, we get three lives for the price of one!
    PS Who was Nancy?

Tsk. Nancy was your Aunt Anne!
When she was a teenager she decided she'd had enough of it and steadfastly refused to answer all those who addressed her as Nancy till they learned the error of their ways.
