A former Governor of Texas, Miriam "Ma" Ferguson, is supposed to have said: "If English was good enough for Jesus Christ, it ought to be good enough for the children of Texas." Few would quarrel with that, but it is a telling comment on the current state of Texas that, if He were alive today in Texas, Jesus would probably be speaking Spanish.
