Antiques Roadshow

One of my favourite TV programmes is Antiques Roadshow. The series has evolved quite a bit since it began in 1977 but the basic format remains the same. Local people bring in well-loved family exhibits to be "evaluated for authenticity and interest". The exhibits in question vary widely in value and age, but I would say that on the whole they are typically under 100 years old.
Participants are sometimes crestfallen when prized and in certain cases well-loved possessions do not fetch as much as they had hoped for. On occasion, indeed, as in the pictures below, they have to be exchanged for a cricket bat or a clock.
