A World of Paradox

If you are in any way interested in art, do have a look at Google's stunning Art Project (http://www.googleartproject.com/). The funny thing is, you'd expect the existence of this and other such sites to have an adverse effect on the number of people visiting museums, but in fact the opposite would seem to be the case. Could it be that that the end result is actually to whet our appetite for the real thing? Again, in spite of the prevalence of online shopping physical stores are fuller than ever. Could it be that we crave the cheerful human intercourse at the checkout desk? "You have a nice day, now." Bookshops are no doubt feeling the pinch but I have limited nostalgia for those cramped, old-fashioned book stores where one scarcely dared move for fear of upsetting a shelf full of books.
I myself am ambivalent about art but was pleased to learn that David Hockney composes his pictures on his iPad. I was particularly interested to learn that he has a special outsize pocket in his jacket, the better to store said iPad, and that he has weighted the other side of his jacket so as to avoid lurching to one side when out walking.
