War and Peace

I greatly enjoyed the BBC serial, which has just ended. If  I was slightly disappointed by the last episode, it was partly, I think, because Lily James (Natasha) was better at portraying youthful exuberance and happiness than conveying sadness and grief.

All in all, this War and Peace was, for me, a triumph, no matter what the purists may say. Andrew Davies shows his prowess as a director in this short extract consisting of a short flashback just before Andrei dies. I don't know if it will work for you. On the BBC iPlayer it lasts for less than a minute as from about 37.00 in the final episode (episode 6).

And there's a nice happy ending for once in a while!
