The Ten Best

Rather late in the day, the NYT has cottoned onto an idea pioneered by the BBC. In Desert Island Discs, well-known people are asked to choose 10 discs to accompany them if they were to be cast away on a desert island. In the NYT version, books take the place of books, but really the formula could be refined or expanded to include just about anything.

Ten Best Cookery Books
Ten Best Gardening Books
Ten Best World War II Heroes
Ten Best Popes of All Time
Ten Best Hotels Manned Exclusively by Robots
Ten Best Cruise Ships (not including Anthem of the Seas)
Ten Best Netball Stars
Ten Best Michael Caine Imitators

And so on. There's only one proviso: you've got to be a celebrity, otherwise no-one will be interested.
