Grow Your Audience

I wonder when this use of the verb "to grow" came in.

We grow vegetables, we grow older, but now Google beseeches us to grow our audience. As Reader's Digest might say: It Pays to Grow Your Word Power.

You are watching your native language evolve!
Very often we don't even notice it has, or more likely it isn't evolving so much as some words/expressions achieving a new temporary meaning courtesy of Yoof Speak.
I think true, lasting evolution perhaps has to originate from a respected source though.
Me/myself seem to have changed places, but to me that seems more like bad grammar.
And I/me/myself am extremely sorry that we seem to have lost the original meaning of 'gay', but that is an example of true evolution.
