More News from Sochi

I would like to propose a new Olympic discipline to take the place of the ill-conceived half pipe (it must be ill-conceived if the French win it) and synchronised ice-skating.

How about ice ballet? It would be much the same as ballet itself except that participants would be asked to perform on ice instead of creaking floor boards. In many ways, it would be the ultimate spectator sport as each ballet would last for up to four hours and of course competing countries would all have to dance the same ice ballet and would be expected to adhere to the classical canon - Sleep-in Beauty and so on.

I think you have treacle in your electonis tonight, Mr Dunn.
Wanted to say that Bolero was a ballet, thought thankfully not of 4 hours duration. But this is a national and cultural thing and I don't see that the Americans ever understood the potential beauty to be gained from the ice dancing. Perhaps it is was a required discipline thoughts would be concentrated?
