Did you ever hear of our mother's evesdropping in a bus just prior to decimalisation? Two oldish ladies, one saying to her companion "WELL, you'd think they might have waited till we are dead wouldn't you".
Powerful stuff, so "enjoy" is not the world which springs to mind. But I'm glad I've read it. Will do so several times more to see if I can detect how much if any of this had to do with being an immigrant, but as we've discussed before there isn't necessarily a reason. Just a very profound melancholy with added large doses of guilt.
I hope that you and your family are well. Unusually you have not blog posted for a week or three but hopefully that simply results from having little to say at present - unusual though that is for members of the BU.
Thank you so much for your kind message. As a matter of fact, I was in London for most of last month and in the normal course of events I would have got in touch with you and suggested we meet up somewhere. But much of the time was taken up with the illness and then death of my eldest sister. Thankfully, she was in good form almost to the end and, if it's possible to talk of a "good" death, then this was one. She was a quite exceptional and extraordinarily kind woman who leaves an aching gap behind her.
We are now back in France and I am afraid there's every chance that I will resume blogging in the near future!
Quite brilliant.
