I don't know whether anyone else has made this observation but it struck me with great force today that in almost every case a video clip DETRACTS from the impact of a song. No doubt there are exceptions to the rule - Bruce Springsteen's Dancing in the Dark" is one that springs to mind - but they are few and far between.
Is this because clips seem to go out of their way to draw the attention away from the music itselg? Quite possibly, in view of the paucity of so much of the material!
