A thing of beauty is a toy forever. That is what Keats said, isn't it? You know, the man who said "Those whom the gods lerv die hard"? A thong of booty is a toy forever? Anyway, he might have had the Louvre in mind when he input those immortal words. The funny thing is that you could well spend a considerable amount of time in Paris without even visiting what is, after all, one of the world's premier museums!
And yet the Louvre is easy to find - it's on the right bank of the Seine, quite near Angelina's Tea Room which is where jet setters like Catherine Deneuve and Michèle Morgan hang out. If you're lucky you might catch a glimpse of them! Now what was I talking about? Ah yes, the Louvre. Well, it's a pretty overrated museum if you want my opinion. Far too big for what is after all a rather limited collection of lifts, elevators and heating systems. The Waygood Otis and Westinghouse collections are admittedly very impressive but why on earth couldn't they have got rid of all that junk cluttering up the other rooms? Masses of pictures and bric à brac all over the place, most of it far too old anyway.
So my verdict on the Louvre? Give it a miss. You won't regret it.
