The Hessey Diaries

An eventful week for Gran (week of 19 October 1943). She leaves Castle Hedingham in deepest Essex and moves to 1 Pelham Place in war-torn London. Her sister Lil’s flat is promptly blitzed! No laughing matter at the time of course. So Lil moves in with Mabel and Gran. I don’t know where Enid, the fourth sister, lives but somewhere in London. Pelham Place is in South Kensington and the Institut français which she visits on two occasions during the week is in North Kensington. It all seems a long time ago, and it is – 66 years ago!
