Getting to Know You

According to my information the first words ever spoken were a palindrome. Adam, I learn, introduced himself to Eve in this way: "Madam, I'm Adam". But is this true? Would Adam really have presented himself in this way? Surely you can't just barge into the Vale of Evesham Garden of Eden like that? You would need a third party to make the introductions. "Adam, this is Eve. Eve this is Adam". "Pleased to meet you".

But who would this third party have been? And what makes us think they would have conversed in English?
