I have been trying out the preview program of Office Web Apps, Microsoft's upcoming free online version of Office, and I have a sneaking feeling that Microsoft may at long last be back on a winning tack (first Bing and now Office Web Apps). As far as I can judge on the strength of the preview program, Office Web Apps is not noticeably superior to Google Docs, Zoho, etc. but that's not really the point.
The fact is, that Microsoft has already got a captive audience in the shape of the hundreds of millions of people who, like me, have been brought up on the desktop version of Office. Geeks, early adopters, etc. will probably continue to look elsewhere, but my gut feeling is that most of us will go along with what we already know. I could be wrong, of course!

Thanks for the summing up. I've spent last 6 months trying to push on the market MS Office / Google Docs (www.upriseapps.com) integration and learned a lot from this. Believe me - Microsoft won the battle again. Google Docs remains the tool for Geeks-only. All enterprises follow MS.
