Life on t'Ocean Waves

image

The world's largest cruise ship, Oasis of the Seas, cost €10 billion to build and can accommodate 63,000 passengers and 1000 crew members. Amenities include an ice skating rink with seating for 7800 spectators.

Does anything strike you as odd in the preceding paragraph? If not, it just goes to prove my contention that when it comes to figures people - with me to the fore - will believe ANYTHING, at least up to a certain point. (The real figures are "only" €1 billion, 6,300, 100 and 780.)

Of course, there is another possibility but one that scarcely bears thinking about, namely that nobody reads this blog. Well, good luck to them is all I can say! I have a pretty good idea of what they're missing.

  7. Let me get this straight: you live in the desert near the Eiffel Tower? The Socialist Party headquarters?

No! My desert is a place where you can ice-skate, ski, freeze to death in public places, where you meet incredibly badly behaved English people with appalling accents, revolting Russians, always classy French people, cunning Indians who will promise you the moon without the slightest intention of ever delivering it, and a few locals, here and there, pretty hard to spot really. So, who am I already?

  9. Obviously someone with an excellent command of the English language (and therefore not an Englishman himself). Clearly somebody whose "job" leaves him with plenty of time to visit blogs of distinction such as this and to indulge in idle chatter with the likes of me.
Your name is Guillaume. Am I right or am I right?
PS The only thing that made me hesitate was your reference to "classy French people".

No, the correct answer is: your very own daughter. I am outraged.

  12. Your mother was right, then! I am very "confus" as the French say, classy or otherwise. In the circumstances, the best I can do is offer you a free trip on board the Oasis of the Seas (Costa Cruises), destination Bangor, Maine.

  13. Ok then! I'll be one of the 63000 passengers, in order to remain "Anonymous"! Bisous.
