1 Corinthians 7

In his Letter to the Corinthians, St Paul says (I am paraphrasing but I hope not distorting his message) that he wishes all Christians could stay single and celibate, like him. It is true that he goes on to say, "But if they are not practising self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to be aflame with passion."

Even so, it would seem that for St Paul the ideal situation is one in which the Christian religion disappears!
