When, back in 1995, there seemed a real chance that Lionel Jospin might become President of France, the wags depicted him in a state of blind panic, sweating profusely and wondering what on earth he would do if he were ever elected.
I wonder if Nick Clegg is in a similar state of nerves today? Is there enough talent in the party from which to form a government? There's somebody called Clark Gable but that's about all as far as I can see. Mind you, I suppose one could say the same about the other parties. Perhaps we should follow the example of our more successful football clubs and import some foreign stars. Sarah Palin, for example.

Further to my original post on Wednesday 28th April, I have arguably* been asked to explain what I meant by the reference to "chivalried loafer". I was referring to "liveried chauffeur".
*"Arguably" is a buzz word. It can usually be replaced by the word "not". As in "'The Subliminal Mr Dunn'" is arguably the most interesting blog on the Internet.
