People sometimes have difficulty in "embracing" or "celebrating" Dubai, to use two terms much in vogue during the fabled INTERNATIONAL SHOPPING FESTIVAL, or in explaining its peculiar charms to people who have never been here. Dubai, it is true, is not for the "Generation Mitterand" amongst us, nor for the Education Nationale brigade of any generation. For a lot of Europeans, it is an unwelcome reminder of how far we have slipped in the world rankings. That's all very well, but how IS one to describe Dubai? I think I have the answer to that question and will share it with you in my next post.
