The 800 Years War

Writing just a few minutes before the start of the England-France rugby match, I am reminded of this story: a French schoolboy walks up to an English boy waiting to board the ferry in Calais and pushes him into the sea.
"Why on earth did you do that?", his mother berates him.
"It's because of Joan of Arc", her son replies.
"Joan of Arc? but that was hundreds of years ago".
"Yes, but I only learnt about it at school this morning".
