From time to time I get so ashamed of some of the drivel (not all of it of course) I write in my blog that I decide to remove it from the public gaze. What's more, there are far too many links to YouTube for my liking, so this entry will be the last post for a while to refer to that august site. After all, that is is not why people in their drones droves swarm drive to this site.

But I just wanted to counter some of the buzz concerning the Gypsy Kings emanating from the UAE at the moment. Whatever their merits, I'm afraid the Kings are not much good at lulling babies and small children to sleep. If that is your requirement, may I respectfully suggest this beautiful lullaby? Do you agree with me that there are echos of Ravel in the gorgeous orchestration?

Well, I dunno - this drone is quite happy to swarm to your site when you post music because you are introducing me to a lot of Stuff new to me. But perhaps you are right.

Sorry - I failed to hear those echoes of Ravel.

Hello Papa, while I am quite aware of the slightly pathetic aspect of loving the Gyspsy Kings the way I do, I must say that I couldn't go past the first minute of your lullaby. For a start, well, the music... I just don't have your attraction for all-electronic music. It just bores me silly. Now don't you scoff; I did try! Ravel... um, I am very ready to bet that these "composers" dig deep into anything at hand (that's what I always reflect upon while at my beauty salon: inspiration for seems to come from the Beattles, Beethoven, Michael Bolton, Campaye Segundo, Mozart or The Police).

Sorry, I am not convinced, but keep trying! Meanwhile, have a listen (you too, Aunt!):

    1. The song in question was actually written by John Lennon... I do actually quite like the Gipsy Kings (with or without Chico) but they in turn owe a huge debt to Manitas de Plata.

    2. Well, all I can do is echo your grandmother's sentiments and say I shall pray for you!

Wow, that is lovely! Love it! Though that is Flamenco, probably much more refined that gipsy music. Thanks for sharing, I am in complete awe!

No opinion from me because I can't "access" it. Is that what you techno-wallahs say?
    Have a nice day.

The song in question (are we still talking about the same song?) was indeed written by John, but first sung by Ringo not Paul.
Not a lot of people know that.

And regarding those Gipsy Kings - I see they've pinched Volare from the late great DEAN .....
Some things have to remain unforgiven.

Whilst on the subject of music it might surprise some that I regard Michael Corby of The Babys as the most sublime musician on earth. He rarely plays publicly.

On a recording entitled "The Golden Mile" The Babys illustrate their dominance of the classic rock genre. Another exquisite track is the complex "I'm Falling."

There appears to be a never to be closed chasm between the personalities of Corby and john waite the lead singer.

Whoever "Anonymous" is: Thank you! Just discovered The Babys. It is indeed absolutely brilliant. "I'm falling" is pure genius and I can't believe I had never heard it. I'm going to listen to more right now!
