Where's the Justice?

Why is Richard Attenborough a lord and his brother David only a sir? It just doesn't make sense. I have absolutely nothing against Richard, and it is absolutely not a case of awarding points, but surely David Attenborough is one of the great people of our age. Or perhaps he turned down the title?

    Interesting question.
Perhaps Whispering Dave did turn down an invitation to be elevated, but I don't suppose we will ever know.
What I do recall is that when there was quite a lot of negative publicity over "Dickie's" enoblement it was said (by some 'spokesman') that he would be speaking up for the British film industry in the Lords.
And perhaps he has, after all.

One of the answers may be that David never acted the part of Reggie Christie in 10 Rillington Place, his contribution to humanity therefore, is far inferior.

    1. I never saw 10 Remington Place myself. Was it any good? But I did see Return to Peyton Place, surely one of the best films of all time.

It was a bleak sort of affair the present writer's fascination with John Hurt led me to it. John's performance as Caligula in I Clavdivs remains the greatest ever seen.

The movie is full of ironic lines (Evans) "she's dead" (Christie) "I told you it was serious." "I expect I'll be manager soon" (Evans) "Don't you need to be able to read and write for that?" (Christie).

"I don't want you shouting Tim, I don't want this house getting a name."
