St Stephen's Cathedral

This imposing Gothic pile overlooking the River Yonne in Auxerre serves as a reminder  of how much the translation of public edifices has  come  on since I decided to call it a day. The general standard has improved immeasurably since the days of Gerald Hoffnung. One incongruity struck my eye, however. The French insists that "tenue correcte est exigĂ©e" Which I suppose could be translated by "appropriate attire must be worn". The English on this occasion  is more blunt : "Behave yourself".
