It's a Dog's Life

Just how smart do you think your dog is? Just how smart does IT think it is?
In theory, dogs are great. They’re loyal, loving companions who’ll sit with you after a hard day pretending to be at the office and tilt their head empathetically when you’re feeling down. But can you rely on them in all circumstances? What for example, would  be their preferred course of action  when your neighbour likes to bark all night long and starts yelping whenever you go anywhere near  his house? Let's suppose you have decided to call your dog Gayelord Hauser. How would Gayelord Hauser suggest you go about the task of getting your neighbour to shut up without coming across as something of a jerk(the dog, that is)? It's a tough question and I don't pretend to have the answer. But what about my dog?
I wish I had never started thus post, but having spent most of the morning, I cannot bring myself to abandon it now.

  2. Thinking of loving, loyal dogs in our childhood my mind very naturally turns to memories of the Great Rudolph. Though he was very unpopular at Notley when staying with Huss and Dickie for his habits of digging in rose borders.

    1. It just about killed me, Smoc (and you too, no doubt)! Still, I suppose it's all good exercise for the brain...

  5. I really have clearer memories of Tinker, that poor dog who had been passed on from family to family, so when Mose and Pont returned to England they determined this would be his last Army Posting and brought him with them. Very unfortunately he became ill in quarantine and had to be put down there, but not before Mose was able to visit and cuddle him.
And I remember the wonderful food he was provided with from the Officers' Mess.

    1. Yes I’d forgotten about the Officer’s Mess. Better than the Malcolm Club! Poor old Tinker, wasn’t he quarantined in Northern Ireland, or is that my imagination?
