Why I Blog (1)

This blog is perched rather uneasily between sometimes heavy-handed but essentially harmless trivia and the occasional more serious (but equally heavy-handed) post. In the latter vein, I wanted to try and pin down why I write this blog. Incidentally, what a hateful name - blog. If only they had called it something else at the outset. I'm not an ideas man so it's no good looking to me for an alternative, but I just wish we'd called it something different.

One of the reasons why I blog is because I am by nature rather slow-witted, often without no particular point of view. I am therefore easy prey in conversation to other more forceful and committed personalities. I am easily impressionable, like Lord John Russell bearing the imprint of the last person who sat on me. So the blog is a handy device for putting across an argument, whether or not deeply felt, without being cut to pieces, ridiculed or shouted down by less tender souls.
